{July 04, 2008}   TIPS TO LOOK GOOD

images16.jpg‘Looking good’ is a relative term. It can mean having splendid lustrous hair, it can mean having glowing skin, it can even mean a wonderful figure. Most importantly, looking good is an overall concept- it refers to the hair, the skin, the figure, and necessarily the attitude with which you carry them off.

Here are some general tips to ‘look good’.
Keep your hair clean, shampoo every couple of days in summer, and every three-four days in winter. Practice hot oil treatment, and trim your hair every six weeks or so, to be free from split ends. Identify your hair type, and accordingly choose your shampoo and conditioner. Herbs like amla and shikakai are wonderful for the hair.

When it comes to skin, it’s a little more difficult. Know your skin type, and use products that cater to it. Always, always use sunscreen when out- even in winter. Use face packs that clean and exfoliate your skin, giving it a glow.

Eat wisely. Vegetables and fruits are essential. Drink lots of water. Take good exercise. Not only does exercise keep you fit, it gives a rosy flush to your skin. You’ll look and feel good.
Attitude- perhaps the most important of them all. You can’t carry off anything without attitude. Keep your head high, believe in yourself. You can conquer the world if you want to. Respect yourself. Have faith. Believe in the Almighty and His power.
And you shall truly ‘look good’!

{July 04, 2008}   Fruit and Fashion

Countless people in India believe that nothing in life is more important than a dose of fashion which entered our lives at a blistering pace. Even though recent fashion chattel has maligned our cultural tastes, yet the urge to incorporate and experiment new trends seem unabated.red-fruits.jpg
Of late an inevitable connection has been established between two different genres; one being an edible natural product unaltered by human notions-the fruit and the other being fashion-a constantly evolving process requiring unrestrained human adulteration. The connection though unique-shares a limelight, which preferably goes unnoticed.

Some people feel the way to a healthy body is a blend of juices. Little do they know that blends and over processed juices have high calories and less ascorbic acid-a vital need for the body. And some simply ape the models that they consider are an epitome of health and beauty. Switching over from a regular lunch to a fruit salad in the afternoon is a new mantra.
When it comes to clothes, fruity colors are ‘in’ this season. Hot orange, pinks, brilliant whites, and lime-green stand out among a crowd of black corporate suits. A colorful array of cherry print dresses, pineapple topped shirts and kiwi print pants display a holiday mood. One can accessorize with a cut out cherry pendant or a watermelon-hooped earring to ‘mix n match’. To complete the look, fruit based red tinged sunglasses, fruit embellished sandals and an apple bag would be an ideal pick, complemented by fruity perfumes and cosmetics.
Trendy and chic this fashion statement will rule.1109215932_9c198eb56a_o.jpg

{July 03, 2008}   The Correct Method of Waxing

images45.jpgA very big percentage of the young female population removes body hair. They use different methods- shaving and waxing being the most preferred. There are some who get waxed at a parlour, and then there are some who wax themselves at home. Here are some little tips to wax correctly.

Use a good brand of wax, preferably keep it in a heater, so that you can heat it if it cools down too much. Make sure your skin is not moisturized- as this prevents hair removal. Powder it to make it dry.

Spread the wax evenly in the direction of your hair growth, blowing slightly to cool it down. Put the cellophane/cloth strip, press firmly, you may powder on top of it too.

Pull off the wax strip in the opposite direction of the hair growth, in one firm motion. There may be little stray hairs, you can just press down a corner of the cellophane/cloth, and pull off, to remove those.

images35.jpg
Follow this for the rest of the body parts you wish to wax. Remember to wax knuckles, and little hairs near the ankle too. It’s never a good idea to wax eyebrows- threading is more advisable.
After waxing, rub some crushed ice on your skin. This relieves any slight irritation you may have. Apply Lacto-Calamine liberally all over your body, moisten a towel, and pat dry.
Then use a moderately oily lotion, massage it into your skin.
Voila! Easy as that!

{June 27, 2008}   EYE CARE

It is rightly said that the eyes are the window to the soul. People tend to notice the other person’s eyes, when meeting for the first time. And you look out at the world through your eyes. In view of all this, it comes as no surprise that you should look after your eyes just as well as any other part of the body.images12.jpg
Prevent your lashes from getting stuck together by using a bit of powder on them. To get rid of dark circles, put slices of potato or cucumber. To get sparkling eyes, consume foods rich in Vitamin A, like payaya, eggs, fish and milk. Also increase the intake of foods like citrus fruits and fresh vegetables. Splash cold water on your eyes in the morning- it gives brightness.
For puffy eyes, grate a potato with its peel and apply on your closed eyelids for about 20 minutes and relax completely. You may even take a nap. And voila! The puffiness is gone when you get up!

To soothe tired eyes, soak some cotton in chilled milk and lay it on your eye-lids. It is a wonderfully relaxing sensation.
Use whitening cream around the eye-area to get rid of dark marks, or shadows. Always remember to remove eye makeup before going to sleep, as the mascara, kajal, or eyeliner can clump together to make deposits inside your eyes, and create bacterial growth.
Finally, it is very important to get enough rest, as lack of sleep can lead to dark circles, or shadows under the eyes.images13.jpg

{June 25, 2008}   CURING ACNE PROBLEMS

51.jpgIf you are one of the many Indians who suffer from zits then you should be extracareful while the summer months are approaching. Though the zits are more common in teenage don’t be alarmed if you experience them later. Due to several fluctuating reasons, acne can attack you at any point of your life. They can occur on the face, the neck, the shoulders, the back and even the chest! Acnes mainly occur due to excess oil secreted from your skin pores which should naturally lubricate your skin and hair. It is the excess secretion that breeds the bacteria for those dreaded acnes.

Always remember that a foundation to a good skin is cleanliness and appropriate hydration. No matter what strive to clean your face with anti-bacterial mild facewash or cleanser twice a day. Also make sure that your skin is hydrated properly from within. Drinking more than eight glasses of water is the key. Along with that have those containing Zinc, as found in mushrooms and broccoli. Make sure to include Biotin too which are found in eggs. All these ensure that your skin stays healthy.
Having wheat germ or intaking wheat germ oil along with supplements of vitamin A and E keeps your skin healthier in the long-run.

{June 24, 2008}   The Black Nail Polish

Girls really love nail polish. It has always been in fashion, only colors and texture changed over the years. A ladies hand is incomplete with nail polish. It has a very interesting history. Nail polish can be traced back to at least 3000 BC when it originated in China. The Chinese found ways to use gum arabic, egg whites, gelatin, and bees wax to create varnishes and lacquers for the nails. The Egyptians would use henna to stain their fingernails. In China, as well as in Egypt, color represented social class. During the Chou Dynasty, circa 600 BC, gold and silver were the royal colors. Later, royalty starting wearing black or red nail color. Lower ranking women were only permitted to wear pale tones. Wearing royal colors without being royalty was punished by death. Modern nail polish is an actually a variation of car paint.

Anyways what other beauty product can boast a history that includes Chinese royalty and Freddie Mercury? Simultaneously countercultural and aristocratic, black nail polish is making yet another comeback. Flouting several conventions in one go, glam kingpin Freddie Mercury wears black varnish, but only on one hand; Marc Bolan, David Bowie, and other rock-star gender benders also polish.
Despite cropping up on fashion models, black nail polish still says “rebellious rock,” as evidenced by indie band the Deathray Davies’ album, titled Midnight at the Black Nail Polish Factory. Football superstar/dandy David Beckham is photographed for L’Uomo Vogue with black nails. All these celebrities putting on black nail polish goes to show that black nail polish has come of age and it is now a rage.

{June 24, 2008}   PLAYING WITH HAIR EXTENSIONS

19.jpgHave you noticed the huge number of celebrities who have suddenly grown flowing locks overnight? The innumerable amounts of ways with which they change styles are only possible through the application of hair extensions. Hair extensions, when manipulated carefully and with professional aid, can be a great way to enhance your natural locks in the most flattering way! Really witty use of hair extensions lets you have ample fun with your hair. You can extensions put on your hair just for occasional use or even for a few months as long as you can maintain it fine. They will add instant volume to limp hair and you can even have them in varying colors to add funky twists to your hairstyle. They will give you immediate relief from any hairstyle that might bore you from staying there for too long.

While having a hair extension done you must check in with the market and get it done from the best pro you can afford. Remember that in case of hair extensions, it is worthwhile to have it done from a good place to get a quality experience. Depending on your mood and occasion, you can have it done for as short a span or as long as you want.

Always go for a soft and tender-bristled brush to brush the extensions and also the rest of your hair while you have them on. You must never tug or pull your hair hard because that would damage your style. Then you will have to get them re-set by your stylist or you can even end up damaging the extension altogether!

42.jpgWhen it comes to hair highlighting, often doing a good job out of it at home is achievable, considering you pay attention to certain basic things. It also comes cheap and easy and when done carefully and with a reputed brand, it really pays well! Highlights really consist of selecting a few small or thick strands of hair. The idea is to break the monotony of your existing hair to create a sun-kissed look. You only go 2 to 3 shades lighter than the rest of your hair but never lesser than that! The focus of highlighting is to bring depth and add a colorful sheen to your existing hair color.

A salon-perfect look will come to your hair if you follow the basic guidelines from a reputed haircolour pack. Use a clarifying shampoo that will keep your mane receptive to the colour. Use it the couple of times you shampoo before highlighting. Also remember not to shampoo on the day you colour.

The colouring should be done by ½ and ¼ inch acrylic brushes rather than those that come in regular boxes. These will give you better colouring and a less flatter tone than the ones that will be supplied in the boxes.

Use tight and well-fitting latex gloves while colouring.

You must have realistic expectations about the colour and consider the change according to the original colour and intensity of your hair.

Start colouring from the back of your head, ending up frontwards.
